CHESS REVIEWVolume 13, Number 2, February 1945
CHESS BRIEFS A. J. Fink of San Francisco and Herman Steiner of Los Angeles tied for first place in the California State Championship Tournament held at San Francisco January 15-25. Steiner was leading until the last round when he drew with James E. Hurt of Concord, former champion of the State of Washington. In the final standings, Hurt finished fourth, behind Charles Howland of Oakland. The other contestants were W. Donnelly of San Francisco, C. Svalberg of Berkeley, Cpl. N. Goldberg of New York, C. Jarrell and M. Forti of Los Angeles and H. W. Tower of Petaluma. Fink and Steiner were undefeated, each scoring seven wins and two draws. An effort is being made to arrange a play-off match for the title. |
