Steiner Crash

United States. - Rather belated news of the match San Francisco v. Los Angeles at San Luis Obispo on May 30 reveals that it was almost immediately followed by a fatal accident. Herman Steiner (who will be remembered as a visitor to this country in the past) took part in the match, winning his game on the top board for Los Angeles against A.J. Fink - in spite of which San Francisco won the match 13-12. Driving his car home with Dr. R.B. Griffith, the Los Angeles second-board, and another passenger, Steiner came in collision with a car going in the opposite direction. Dr. Griffith, his fellow passenger, and the driver of the other car were killed; but Steiner almost miraculously escaped with but little injury.
