Volume 1, Number 1: January 1956 In Memoriam, Herman Steiner died on November 22, 1955. The Hollywood Chess Group will change its name to the Herman Steiner Chess Group.

Volume 1, Number 4: December 1956 After eulogizing the late Herman Steiner, Jacqueline Rothschild Piatigorsky said, "Let me add personally that he was the best friend I ever had and that in chess I owe him all I know." On August 19, 1956, 42 players gathered at the Herman Steiner Chess Club to complete for the 4 openings in the State Championship Finals. 15-Year-old Larry Remlinger won against such veterans as Martin, Borochow, and Cross.
