Larry Christiansen (2363) won the Bogeda Bogeda Open by a score of 5-0. Don Cotten won the Ontario Club Championship with a score of 5-0. Lee Corbin won the Riverside Championship Preliminaries with a score of 5-0. Tibor Weinberger won the Chess Set Masters Round Robin with a score of 6-0. Robin Wright won the Huntington Park tourney with a score of 6-1. William Batchelder (2225) won the Newport Beach Spring Open by a score of 5-0. Julius Loftsson (2212), Lee Corbin (2041), Perry Youngworth (2029), Greg Fields (1990), and James Maki (1990) tied for 1st at the Pacific Coast Open with 4-1. Robert Gudino won the Whittier Winter by a score of 7-0. James Tarjan (2489) won the Western Futurity by a score of 7-2.

Volume 5, Number 6, September, 1979 pdf png Scott Whitney (1805) won the Rockwell Summer Swiss with a score of 7-1. GM Walter Browne (2591) and Victor Frias (2410) tied with 5.5-.5 to win the Golden West Class Championships. Jack Peters (2475) won the Chess Set New Look Futurity with a score of 10.5-1.5. Julius Loftsson (2345), David Gliksman (2096), and Sidney Rubin (2022) tied for 1st with 3.5-.5 in the Orange County Festival. John Skratlia (2131) scored 4.5-.5 to win the West Covina August Open. Jeff Long (1913) scored 5.5-.5 to win the Southern California Open Champs. IM Kamran Shirazi (2370) won the Player's September Open with a score of 3.5-.5.

Volume 10, Number 4, June, 1984 pdf png Doug Root (2490) and Adam Lief (2152) both tied with 3.5-.5 to win the Labate's Chess Center #28, held on August 18-19. Jeff Heriot won the Santa Monica Bay Rating tourament with a score of 6-1, held from August-October. IM Kamran Shirazi won the Southern California Open, held on September 1-3, with a score of 6-0.
